Debian Initiates General Vote to Support Petition Against Stallman

The voting plan has been posted, with the only option being to support the petition against Stallman to the Debian project as an organization. Voting organizer, Steve Langasek of Canonical, limited the discussion period to a week (previously a minimum of 2 weeks was allowed for discussion). Voting founding members also included Neil McGovern, Steve McIntyre, and Sam Hartman, former Debian Project Leaders.

In addition, The Document Foundation, which oversees the development of the LibreOffice office suite, joined Stallman's criticism, which announced the suspension of the participation of a representative of the Free Software Foundation in its advisory board and the termination of cooperation with the Free Software Foundation until the situation changes. The petition was also signed by Creative Commons, GNU Radio, OBS Project and SUSE. In the meantime, an open letter demanding the resignation of the entire board of directors of the SPO Foundation and the removal of Stallman was signed by about 2400 people, and a letter in support of Stallman was signed by 2000 people.

Addendum 1: Geoffrey Knauth, President of the Free Software Foundation, said he is ready to step down and step down from the Board of Directors as soon as new leaders are formed to ensure the continuity of the Free Software Fund's mission and compliance with asset management requirements.

Addition 2: Red Hat opposed Stallman and announced a freeze on funding for the Free Software Foundation and all activities carried out by this organization. In addition, many Red Hat-affiliated developers and activists have opted out of events hosted or supported by the Free Software Foundation.

Addendum 3: Initially, it was proposed to sign the appeal from the Debian project behind the scenes, bypassing the general voting procedure.
