Half-Life: Alyx hit 43 concurrent players on launch day

Valve's high-budget virtual reality headset exclusive, Half-Life: Alyx, attracted 43 thousand concurrent players on the day of the project's launch on Steam. Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad released the data on Twitter, saying that the game was a success by VR standards and was already on par with Beat Saber in terms of concurrent players.

But if you look at the game as a new entry in one of the most recognized series in history, the result is good, but not outstanding. The same Daniel Ahmad pointed out the obvious: the indicators are limited by the system requirements of virtual reality.

NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella also noted that the exclusivity of projects for VR helmets turned out to be a missed sales opportunity, despite the technical achievements of the game.

Meanwhile, the maximum number of viewers of the game's broadcasts on Twitch reached 300 thousand - seven times the peak number of players. And this is another clear indication that technical limitations have pushed away most of its target audience from the game.

The game launched yesterday is the first project in the Half-Life series in 13 years. While it's not the illusionary Half-Life 3 that many fans were hoping for, the head-mounted shooter was well received by critics.
