Firefox 73 will introduce single site browser mode. Strengthening the protection of add-on developer accounts

After adding to Firefox 71 Support work in the Internet kiosk mode, Mozilla developers added Π² nightly builds Firefox, on the basis of which the Firefox 73 release will be formed, the ability to open a link using the concept of "Site Specific BrowserΒ» (SSB). The new mode limits the opening in the window of only links to the pages of the current site (external links open in a separate browser window), and also hides the menu, address bar and other elements of the browser interface.

Unlike the previously added kiosk mode, the work is done not in full screen mode, but in a normal window, but without Firefox-specific interface elements. With the help of a new feature, you can organize work with a web application as with a regular desktop program. To open a link in SSB mode, the command line flag "-ssb" is proposed, which can be used when creating shortcuts for web applications, and button "Launch Site Specific Browser", located in the page actions menu (opens through the ellipsis to the right of the address bar).

When connecting to addons.mozilla.org, a verification code will be additionally requested, generated standalone application (FreeOTP, Authy, Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, andOTP or KeepassXC). The change is planned to be introduced in early 2020. It is expected that the enforcement of two-factor authentication will help prevent unauthorized access in case of leakage of developer account settings and protect against attackers taking control of add-ons.
