Firefox is experimenting with using Bing as the default search engine

Mozilla is experimenting with switching 1% of Firefox users to use the default search engine Microsoft Bing. The experiment began on September 6 and will last until the end of January 2022. You can rate your participation in Mozilla's experiments on the "about:studies" page. For users who prefer other search engines, the ability to select the search engine to your taste remains in the settings.

Recall that in the English-language assembly of Firefox, Google is offered by default, in the Russian-language and Turkish versions - Yandex, and in assemblies for China - Baidu. The default search engines have click-through contracts that generate the lion's share of Mozilla's revenue. For example, in 2019 Mozilla generated 88% of its revenue from search engines. The deal with Google to transfer search traffic brings in about $400 million a year. In 2020, this deal was extended until August 2023, but further cooperation is in doubt, so Mozilla is preparing the ground for a change in the main search partner.
