Germany launched the eHighway on Tuesday with a contact network for recharging electric trucks on the go.

The length of the electrified section of the road, located south of Frankfurt, is 10 km. This technology has already been testing in Sweden and Los Angeles, but on much shorter stretches of road.

Several years ago, as part of an initiative to reduce air pollution caused by diesel dump trucks, Siemens and heavy truck manufacturer Scania joined forces to implement a project to make vehicles more environmentally friendly.

The hybrid truck they have created is powered by overhead power lines along a conventional highway, making them similar to systems that have long been used to power trams and electric trains.
