In Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and other Chromium-based browsers, copying a password involves clicking on the eye icon and then viewing or copying the characters. And although this is a fairly obvious solution, it is not without its drawbacks. In particular, the password can simply be snooped on, which makes it meaningless.
And here on Google
The idea is to add an option in Password Options to copy characters to the clipboard. The corresponding functionality will appear later, for now this is just a commit. Moreover, after copying the password, you can paste it wherever needed, as is implemented in Android. This is expected to come to other Chromium-based browsers in the future.
Note that this is not the only innovation in terms of data protection in the proprietary browser. Google originally offered Password Checkup as a browser extension, but the company is now bringing it directly to Chrome. The password check feature is available in Chrome Canary 82 builds and can now be enabled.
Let us remind you that earlier in Microsoft Edge based on Chromium it became possible to open sites in compatibility mode with outdated Edge. They can also be opened in compatibility mode with IE11, which may be important for government agencies and banks.
