The researchers found mention of this in the code of the Google Play Movies app version 4.18.37. In particular, one line of code refers to "hundreds of movies with just a few advertisements." This suggests that most of the service library may become available in the new format. It remains unclear whether the innovation will apply to all films available in Play Movies & TV, or we are talking only about individual films. However, the change can drastically change how the service works, making it more viable.
It is currently unknown when Google might introduce the innovation. Most likely, this will happen along with one of the future updates to the service client.
