India gets arrested for playing PUBG Mobile due to battle royale craze

In the Indian city of Rajkot, the mobile PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was recently banned, which is why people playing it can be arrested right on the street. Which is exactly what happened, according to the Indian Express.

India gets arrested for playing PUBG Mobile due to battle royale craze

The Rajkot police have arrested at least 10 people since the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds ban went into effect on March 6. “Our team caught these guys red-handed. They were taken into custody after they were found playing PUBG,” Rajkot Special Operations Team Investigator Rohit Raval said of the three youths who were caught with a mobile version of the battle royale. “This game is highly addictive, and the defendants were so engrossed in the game that they didn’t even notice our team approaching.”

Other cities in the Indian state of Gujarat have also joined in the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds ban, which is expected to last until March 30th. Any person caught playing the popular battle royale is subject to prosecution under Article 118 of the Indian Penal Code: "Disobedience of an order issued by civil servants lawfully." While it's unlikely that someone will be sent to jail just for playing PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, the potential punishment for those who refuse to stop the hobby is imprisonment.

The Eurogamer portal asked the PUBG Mobile developers to comment on the bans and arrests. “In order to promote a healthy and balanced gaming environment, we are developing many new features and improvements. They will allow us to provide an environment where players can enjoy PUBG Mobile in a responsible way,” said a studio spokesperson. “We are honored to have a passionate community of PUBG Mobile players in India and around the world, and we will continue to take their feedback to make PUBG Mobile the best game ever!”
