Spain officially launched the 314-Pflops supercomputer MareNostrum 5, which will soon combine with two quantum computers

On December 21, the European supercomputer MareNostrum 5 with a performance of 314 Pflops was officially launched at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de SupercomputaciΓ³n (BSC-CNS). The ceremony dedicated to the machine, created as part of the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) project, was attended by the Chairman of the Government of Spain. MareNostrum 5 represents the largest investment ever made by Europe in Spain's scientific infrastructure - a total of €202 million, of which €151,4 million was spent on the purchase of a supercomputer. Funding was provided by EuroHPC JU through the EU Connecting Europe Fund and the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, and by the participating states: Spain (through the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the Government of Catalonia), Turkey and Portugal.
