Pictured above is a classroom at an elementary school in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Schoolchildren wear a wearable device called the Focus 1, made by Boston-based startup BrainCo Inc., on their heads. The development of the wearable device also involved specialists from the Center for Brain Research at Harvard University.

The Focus 1 wearable uses electroencephalographic (EEG) sensors to measure attentiveness. Teachers can track student attention levels on the dashboard by identifying which students are distracted. It is also possible to determine from the indicators that one of the students is idle.
