According to Russian media reports, the first vehicle with an autonomous driving system to appear on public roads in Moscow will be a car created by Yandex engineers. Tigran Khudaverdyan, CEO of Yandex.Taxi, announced this, adding that the unmanned vehicle will begin testing in May this year.
Representatives of the NTI Autonet explained that the car created by Yandex will be the first vehicle with an autonomous control system that will appear on public roads in accordance with a legal experiment conducted by the Russian government. We are talking about an experiment in which highly automated vehicles will appear on public roads in Moscow and Tatarstan. At the moment, the Yandex drone is undergoing the necessary certification at the NAMI test site.
Representatives of seven companies announced their intention to test their own unmanned vehicles in Moscow and Tatarstan. Last autumn, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a corresponding decree, which launched the start of testing on the roads of Moscow and Tatarstan. It is expected that the pilot operation of autonomous vehicles will be carried out until March 1, 2022. After that, a meeting of a special government commission will be held, which will determine the basic requirements for the operation of unmanned vehicles. It is also planned to carry out the development of standards for this industry direction, which will allow further development of the segment.
