“Disappearing” messages will appear in the WhatsApp messenger

It has become known that a new feature called “Disappearing Messages” has been discovered in the latest beta version of the WhatsApp mobile application for iOS and Android platforms. It is currently under development and is designed to automatically delete old messages after a certain period of time.

This tool will become available for group chats, which usually contain a large number of messages. Automatic deletion of old messages seems to be a very useful feature, since with its help users will be able to save disk space without making any effort. Administrators of group chats will be able to use the new feature, who will choose after what time messages should be deleted. Obviously, this feature will not be available to regular participants in group chats.

The report states that the feature in question has been spotted in WhatsApp for Android version 2.19.275. It is also present in the latest beta version of the application (2.19.348), but under a different name. For some reason, the developers decided to rename the function, calling it “Delete messages”. Interacting with it is quite simple: you just need to select a time period, after which the messages will be automatically deleted. The available options allow messages to be deleted after 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, or 1 year. If you need to save message history, you can simply disable the function.

It was previously reported that WhatsApp developers intend to add a full-fledged night mode to the popular messenger. At the moment, it is unknown when this may happen, since even in the beta version of the program there are no hints about the imminent appearance of a night mode.
