Microsoft Edge may implement a feature from Vivaldi

Microsoft continues to improve the Edge browser. After all, the presence of the Chromium rendering engine only means rendering speed, but does not make the default browser the best. Therefore, the developers undertook to copy interesting finds from others. One of them is the customizable tabs in the Vivaldi browser.

Unlike most "brothers in the shop", Vivaldi has a lot of settings that allow you to change the position of the tabs, their behavior, and so on. There is also support for thumbnails when hovering the cursor, and setting the minimum width of the active tab, and an indicator of unread messages, and much more.

Of course, all this is hardwired into the browser, but keep in mind that almost all of these features can be implemented using extensions. And the new Microsoft Edge will work with all Google Chrome extensions, and in addition, the Redmond corporation itself will also create and maintain its own extension store. In other words, it all depends on the plugin authors. Theoretically, you can make the same β€œcombine” from Microsoft Edge as from Chrome. However, it should not be ruled out that the company will build similar functions directly into the program code.

As for the timing of the release, the company is still intriguing, but insiders expect that in the coming weeks, Microsoft will give the go-ahead to release a pre-build. You can also download an unofficial early build that has leaked online.

Note that this approach will allow the company, as expected, to improve the popularity of the proprietary browser among users, transfer it to other operating systems and even grab a part of the market from Google. At least theoretically, this is possible.
