The international payment system Visa has launched payment for purchases using voice. This service is implemented using the Alice voice assistant from Yandex and is already available in 32 cafes and restaurants in the capital. The Bartello food and drink ordering service took part in the implementation of the project.

Using the service developed on the Yandex.Dialogues platform, you can order food and drinks contactlessly, as well as pay for purchases and leave tips without waiting for the waiter. To use this feature, a Visa cardholder of any Russian bank needs to ask Alice to launch the Bartello skill on their smartphone. Then the voice assistant will ask which institution the client is in and what he wants to order. After the formation of the order, "Alisa" will transfer it to the chefs in the kitchen.

Before paying for such an order, you will need to enter the card details on a special secure page, which will be automatically displayed on the smartphone screen. When this process is completed, Alice will offer to create a code word, which will later be used to confirm purchases.

The press service of Visa noted that this technology is not related to biometrics. Currently, paying for purchases using voice is not very common, since smartphone manufacturers do not seek to integrate into their products the functions of a special authenticator that uses voice to confirm payments.

According to Visa, the popularity of voice assistants has doubled in the last three years alone. Worldwide, more than 30% of consumers use different services with voice assistants. Over the past year, the number of people using AI-based voice solutions to pay for purchases and services has increased by a quarter.

β€œWe see the rapid development of voice assistants in Russia and in the world. Today, the number of Russians who at least once a month resort to the help of voice assistants to solve everyday tasks exceeds 50 million people, while 90% of them use voice services on their smartphones. This is primarily due to the convenience and safety of such solutions for consumers,” says Yury Topunov, head of Visa products in Russia.
