The new Chrome has a mode that will "darken" any site

"Dark mode" in applications now no longer surprise anyone. This feature is available in all current operating systems, browsers, and many mobile and desktop applications. But many websites still do not support this feature. But it doesn't seem to be necessary.

Developers from Google added in the Canary browser version, a flag that activates the appropriate design on different sites. This flag can be found under chrome://flags and is called Force Dark Mode for Web Contents. As in other cases, it must be activated by changing Default to Enabled, and then restarting the browser.

Several options are available to choose from:

  • Simple inversion based on HSL;
  • Simple inversion based on CIELAB;
  • Selective image inversion;
  • Selective inversion of non-image elements;
  • Selective inversion of everything.

These features are available on Mac, Windows, Linux, Chrome OS, and Android. To activate, you need a Chrome Canary version of at least 78.0.3873.0. To activate one or another option, you need to restart the browser after selection. However, the system will prompt itself.

And while it looks pretty good, some might rightly think that Google is taking on too much by changing the design and interface of sites. However, if someone has vision problems, then this opportunity is quite capable of helping them. It is not yet clear when this feature will appear in the release version and how different it will be from the current iteration. However, the very fact of the emergence of such a possibility is very interesting.
