Doom 64 returns to Nintendo console in November after 22 years

Classic shooter Doom 22 will return as a special re-release for the Nintendo Switch console on November 64. This was announced by senior vice president of Bethesda Softworks Pete Hines during a press conference Nintendo Direct. The game first became available on the Nintendo console in 1997. It takes place immediately after the events of Doom 2. According to Hynes, the port will include all 30+ levels of the original.

Doom 64 was developed and published by Midway Games and released exclusively on the Nintendo 64 console, and therefore few gamers of the 1990s remember it, although the game boasted excellent graphics for its time and atmospheric music. The shooter was one of the most impressive technological feats to get the most out of the Nintendo 64. The game took full advantage of the console's technical capabilities, including effects and techniques never before seen in the Doom engine. It was executed at a resolution of 320 × 240 pixels and, unlike other versions, the frequency was fixed at 30 frames / s.

But will Doom 64 come to other platforms? Doom's official Twitter account doesn't say anything for sure. Rumors that the game is in development began this summer when the European rating agency PEGI mentioned her on its website in PC and PS4 versions. And the other day there was a leak again - this time through the Australian Classification Board.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original game, in July Bethesda announced the release the first three Dooms - Doom (1993), Doom 2 and Doom 3 - in versions for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as for mobile devices running iOS and Android. At the end of May, the first Doom received large-scale modification of SIGIL from John Romero (John Romero), one of the creators of the cult shooter. Therefore, the release of Doom 64 on other modern platforms would be very logical.
