A new wi-fi driver for Mediatek chips has been added to OpenBSD-current

Claudio Jeker (claudio@) added the mwx driver to the OpenBSD kernel for wireless cards based on Mediatek MT7921 and MT7922 chips (supports the 802.11ax standard). In its current form, the driver continues to be under development and is not yet suitable for use on production systems. For example, scanning networks and receiving packets (scan + rx) works normally, but transmitting packets (tx) temporarily does not work. During development, the MT7921 chip is used. Additionally, support for the MT7922 chip is announced, but the developer does not yet have the required equipment for testing.

A few days ago, OpenBSD-current also included the qwx driver for Qualcomm IEEE 802.11ax wireless chips, developed by porting the ath11k driver from the Linux kernel. The driver currently only supports operation in modes 11a/b/g. The driver has been tested on Lenovo ThinkPad T14s Gen 4, Lenovo T14s ryzen pro 7 and Thinkpad P 16s Gen.1 laptops.
