Overwatch has introduced a temporary ban system for heroes in competitive matches

Studio announced about the intention to introduce a new system of bans as early as January 2020. According to the plan, the developers will block one tank each week (Tank), a support hero (Support) and two attack characters (DPS).

β€œMany players find projects that are developing dynamically more interesting. They don't want to play the same characters every day. When they see that the list of popular heroes has stagnated, the project is no longer fun for them. We're trying to make Overwatch more enjoyable to play and watch," said shooter designer Scott Mercer.

The new system will be implemented in esports competitions - in the Overwatch League. The developers emphasized that the list of heroes for OWL may differ from those prohibited in the competitive mode. The studio will block access to characters based on popularity in official league matches.
