The latest versions of Android have a problem with unlocking devices

It became known that in Android 9 (Pie) and Android 10 a bug was found, due to which users have problems with unlocking devices. Owners of Pixel, Sony and OnePlus smartphones, which use a pin code to protect the gadget from unauthorized access, may face certain difficulties.

The problem looks like this: the user enters a pin code to gain access to the device, after which the screen goes blank for a short time, and after turning it on again it remains locked. For the first time, this problem became known a few months ago, but at that time it was not massive, since isolated cases of its occurrence were recorded.

Despite the fact that the problem was not fixed, the experts were able to find out the cause. The fact is that the unlock error occurs in the password verification procedure. After the user enters a password, the system checks it against the data stored in memory, but cannot access the decryption key and returns a "null" result, which causes a failure.

At the moment, there are cases when owners of Pixel smartphones of different models, as well as Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact and OnePlus 7 Pro, faced this problem. It is possible that the problem is more widespread, as various smartphones continue to receive software platform updates to Android 10.

To avoid problems with unlocking, users of the mentioned smartphones are temporarily advised to use other available means of protecting devices from unauthorized access. Developers from Google have already been notified about the presence of this problem. They will probably release a fix for the bug preventing Android smartphones from unlocking soon.
