Peaky Blinders VR game in development

Fans of Birmingham, caps, nobles and not-so-villains can rejoice as BBC 2's popular historical crime drama starring Irish actor Cillian Murphy is being turned into a virtual reality helmet game. The launch of the project based on the Peaky Blinders series is scheduled for next year.

The developers from the Maze Theory studio are responsible for transferring the story about a criminal gang to the game world, which will make players part of the famous street gang. The environment will be built around a "stealthy and atypical mission" whose goal is to defeat a rival faction. It is promised that we will meet familiar personalities and visit places from the TV series.

β€œMeet face-to-face with new and established characters from the show, explore familiar Small Heath locations like Shelby's illegal betting shop; Raise a virtual glass of Irish Whiskey at the Harrison Pub,” the game’s description from a press release tells us.

Maze Theory, which includes veterans from Activision and Sony, says it will use cutting-edge machine learning technology to better bring the world of Peaky Blinders into virtual reality. It further explains: β€œFor the first time, characters will respond to player gestures, movement, voice, sounds and body language, and other human-specific ways of communicating. Players will interact and negotiate with their favorite characters in real time, choosing their responses and influencing what happens next."

It sounds curious, but how convincing all this will be, we will only be able to find out in a year. The Peaky Blinders VR project is due out in spring 2020 on all VR platforms.
