The measures taken by the Russian authorities to curb the spread of coronavirus are contributing not only to a significant increase in the popularity of cloud gaming platforms, but also to an increase in their income.
Participants in the Russian cloud gaming market note a significant increase in demand for their services. At the end of March, the number of new users of the Playkey platform increased by 1,5 times. At the same time, the period of peak player activity has changed. If previously most users interacted with the platform in the period from 20:00 to 00:00, now the peak load remains from 15:00 to 01:00. In addition, Playkey's revenue grew 300% in March compared to the previous month.
A representative of the GFN.ru service noted that the continuous increase in the number of users observed throughout the past week. After the official holidays began in schools, the company introduced free access, thanks to which site traffic increased by 4 times and the number of players by 2,5 times. The number of active users of the Loudplay platform this month has increased by 85% compared to January, and the number of new clients has increased by 2,2 times.
Marketing Director of the Playkey project Roman Epishin believes that the increased demand is due to the current circumstances, since usually there has been a seasonal decline in the industry since mid-spring. In his opinion, if the fight against the coronavirus pandemic drags on, then an increase in the number of users of gaming services will be observed within 2-3 months, after which the indicators will decline due to the worsening situation in the global economy.
