In Russia, it is proposed to deploy a separate communication network for transport

The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, according to RBC, has approved a roadmap for covering the transport infrastructure with communication networks.

In fact, we are talking about the formation of a separate data transmission network that will cover various transport messages. These are, in particular, railway, water and automobile routes.

As part of the project to create a transport communications infrastructure, it is proposed to use LPWAN technology (energy efficient long-range network). It allows you to organize an environment for collecting data from various equipment - sensors, meters and sensors. In other words, we are talking about the platform of the Internet of things and machine-to-machine interaction.

According to RBC, the GLONASS-TM company can act as the executor of the project. The amount of the proposed investment is not specified.

“According to the road map, the first network will be built in 2019 at the Kartaly-Krasnoye railway line. In 2020-2022, it is planned to cover inland waterways, a section of the North-South transport corridor, the Vladivostok-Nakhodka railway line and the Moscow-St. Petersburg (M-11) high-speed highway under construction. From 2021, the construction of networks will begin on the highways Belarus (M-1), Crimea (M-2), Russia (M-10), Scandinavia (A-181) and other objects, ”writes RBC.

Market participants, however, doubt the expediency of the project. So, cellular operators say that the idea has neither technical nor economic sense, and the problems of the transport network can be solved using the existing infrastructure of base stations.
