Demand for phones collapsed in Russia: buyers choose inexpensive smartphones

MTS has published the results of a study of the Russian market of mobile phones and smartphones in the first quarter of 2019.

The data obtained indicate that the inhabitants of our country are quickly losing interest in push-button phones - demand has collapsed by 25% in a year. Instead of such devices, Russians began to purchase budget smartphones - costing up to 10 thousand rubles.

“This year we see an extreme drop in sales of push-button phones and feature phones, which are becoming a niche solution for a narrow circle of people. They are being replaced by modern low-cost smartphones that can give the user access to the necessary digital solutions,” the MTS study says.

According to the results of the first three months of this year, 6,5 million cellular devices were sold in our country, which is 4% more compared to the same period in 2018. In monetary terms, the market grew by 11% to RUB 106 billion.

Huawei/Honor smartphones ranked first in the Russian market in terms of the number of devices sold. In second place are Samsung devices, and Apple smartphones close the top three. The total share of these brands in the last quarter was at the level of 70%.

The average price of smartphones in Russia is now 16 rubles. At the same time, in the first quarter of 100, the category of devices costing from 2019 to 20 rubles showed the greatest dynamics in physical terms, up 30% compared to the first quarter of 45.
