In Russia, students will begin to be expelled based on the recommendations of artificial intelligence

Starting from the end of 2020, artificial intelligence will begin to monitor the progress of students at Russian universities, TASS reports with reference to the director of EdCrunch University of NUST MISIS Nurlan Kiyasov. The technology is planned to be implemented on the basis of the National Research Technological University “MISiS” (formerly the Moscow Steel Institute named after I.V. Stalin), and in the future to be used in other leading educational institutions of the country.

In Russia, students will begin to be expelled based on the recommendations of artificial intelligence

The purpose of the service is to identify students with low academic performance and inform the students themselves, as well as the university management, about this. To do this, neural networks will analyze a complex of data from the so-called digital footprint. First of all, we are talking about the student’s grades, his activity in lectures, involvement in the public life of the university and behavior in general.

According to Kiyasov, the main goal of the project is to reduce the percentage of expelled students and increase the satisfaction of students themselves with the quality of educational services provided to them. The emergence of such a service is a natural phenomenon, since universities should not lag behind the trend of digitalization of society, Mr. Kiyasov believes.

However, in its current form, the project is not yet final: discussion and refinement of the service is planned at the conference on technologies in education EdCrunch, which will be held on October 1–2 of this year in Moscow.
