The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted South Korean Samsung a number of design patents for a portable solid state drive.
All published documents are titled "SSD Storage Device". Samsung offers a variety of pocket flash drive options.
As you can see in the illustrations, the devices differ in the shape of the case. In particular, versions are offered in the form of a parallelepiped with rounded side or end faces.
For all options, there is a symmetrical USB Type-C port for connecting to a computer. Patents belong to the design category, and therefore the technical characteristics of the drives are not given.
Patent applications were filed back in November-December 2017, but developments have been registered only now - on May 7, 2019.
In addition, declining prices for NAND memory chips contribute to the further development of the global SSD market. It is estimated that this year's SSD shipments could increase by 20-25% compared to 2018, when sales were approximately 200 million units.
