Police officials say that each of the Model X electric cars is about 49 francs more expensive than the diesel cars that were previously used. However, in the long term, the use of vehicles with an electric propulsion system will be beneficial due to significantly lower operating and maintenance costs.

Tesla electric cars, which were later converted into police cars, began arriving in Switzerland in December last year. For several months, the police did not start the use of electric cars, fearing that Tesla vehicles did not implement a sufficiently high level of data storage security. This issue has likely been resolved as the Model X police fleet begins to roll out in Basel. At the moment, three electric patrol cars are used and their number will gradually increase.

Tesla vehicles are gaining popularity among police departments around the world. Probably, law enforcement officers see the prospects for using electric cars in their work and try to use them as efficiently as possible.
