Singapore has developed a patrol boat-submarine

At the LIMA 2019 exhibition in Malaysia, Singapore-based DK Naval Technologies has lifted the veil of secrecy over an unusual development: a patrol boat that can dive underwater. Designed under the Seekrieger name, it combines the high-speed qualities of a coastal patrol boat with the ability to fully submerge.

The development of Seekrieger is conceptual in nature and is still at the level of project study. After completion of model tests, it will be possible to build a prototype. Up to three years may pass before the appearance of an operating ship, the developers note. It can be both a civilian ship and a combat ship. The hull design is based on the trimaran principle - three hulls (floats). This design increases stability afloat and promotes high-speed movement. In addition, each float will serve as a ballast tank to control buoyancy.

In the military version, Seekrieger will be 30,3 m long with a displacement of 90,2 tons. The ship will take 10 people on board. The gas turbine and batteries will provide a surface speed of up to 120 knots and up to 30 knots underwater. Under water, autonomy can reach two weeks with a maximum speed of 10 knots and a diving depth of up to 100 meters. It is also planned to develop ships with a length of 45 and 60 meters, and the 30-meter version is declared as the base one.

The Seekrieger scale model shown at the exhibition was armed with two 27 mm Sea Snake-27 cannons from the German company Rheinmetall. But light weapons can be modified at the request of the customer. As an option, weapons are proposed in the form of two torpedo tubes, one on each side of the boat for 10 light torpedoes. External elements in the form of antennas, radar installations and weapon stations hide in sheltered niches 30 seconds before full immersion. Definitely, Seekrieger can be a surprise for intruders in the patrol area.
