Non-silicon power semiconductor market to hit $XNUMX billion next year

Analyst company forecasts Om Day, the market for power semiconductors based on SiC (silicon carbide) and GaN (gallium nitride) will exceed $2021 billion in 1, driven by demand for electric vehicles, power supplies and photovoltaic converters. This means that power supplies and converters will become smaller and lighter, enabling longer mileage for both electric vehicles and electronics.

Non-silicon power semiconductor market to hit $XNUMX billion next year

According to the results of the current year, as predicted in Omdia, the market for SiC and GaN elements will rise in price to $854 million. For comparison, in 2018 the market for "non-silicon" power semiconductors was worth $571 million. Thus, in three years there will be an almost twofold increase in the market value, which indicates an extreme need for these components.

Power semiconductors based on silicon carbide and gallium nitride make it possible to produce diodes, transistors and microcircuits for power supplies and converters with the highest efficiency for currents over a wide range. To increase the range of an electric car or to increase the battery life of a smartphone, not only modern and capacious batteries are needed, but also semiconductors that do not lose energy during transients and intermediate circuits.

By the end of the decade, SiC and GaN manufacturers are expected to see double-digit growth in revenue each year, reaching $2029 billion in 5.
