Apple has temporarily closed most of its retail stores in the US due to concerns for the safety of its employees and customers as protests sparked by the death of African-American George Floyd in Minneapolis continue to spread across the country, 9to5Mac reported. As a result, there have been numerous incidents of looting, vandalism and property theft at various retail stores, including the Apple Store.

β€œConcerned for the health and safety of our teams, we have decided to keep a number of our U.S. stores closed on Sunday,” Apple said. According to 9to5Mac, some Apple Stores will remain closed on Monday.

The Apple store in the Grove shopping and entertainment center in Los Angeles and the company's retail outlets in Brooklyn and Washington (DC) were also attacked. According to Apple's website, these stores will remain closed until June 6th or 7th.

In the US, only 140 of Apple's 271 retail stores have reopened after being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
