Currently, the US Air Force is going to conduct market research and form an operations analysis concept for Skyborg to understand what technologies exist for such a fleet. The US military hopes to launch prototypes of AI-powered autonomous drones as early as 2023.
In a press release from the US Air Force, it is reported that the drone control system should provide autonomous takeoff and landing. The device must take into account the terrain during the flight, avoid obstacles and weather conditions dangerous for flight.
The Skyborg drone will be designed to be operated by people with little or no pilot or engineer knowledge.
