WhatsApp will have a feature to automatically delete messages

Not long ago, the popular WhatsApp messenger received support for dark mode, but this does not mean that the developers have stopped working on creating new features. However, this time users will not find something truly new, but a feature that has been present in competing instant messengers for years. We are talking about automatic deletion of messages.

WhatsApp will have a feature to automatically delete messages

In beta versions of WhatsApp 2.20.83 and 2.20.84, it became possible to set the retention period for messages for regular chats. Something similar had already appeared in one of the previous beta versions of the application, but then the developers implemented the automatic deletion function only for group chats. It seems that now their plans have changed and users will be able to set automatic deletion of messages for any conversations.

Published images show that in the settings of regular chats, the function of selecting the duration of the message storage period has again appeared. Depending on their own preferences, users can choose how long conversations should be stored. Several options are available, ranging from 1 hour to 1 year. If necessary, this function can be disabled by selecting the appropriate menu item. After activating the function, a clock image appears next to the time the message was sent, emphasizing that it will be deleted after the storage period selected in the settings ends.

WhatsApp will have a feature to automatically delete messages

At the moment, it is unknown when the new feature may arrive in the stable version of WhatsApp. Obviously, the developers are currently testing it. Most likely, the function of automatically deleting messages will become available to the masses of messenger users in one of the future updates.
