According to the information on the site Steam Tools, the massive "expulsion" took place within 11 hours and took away 982 products, including both games and soundtracks for them. The last cleaning was done a week ago.

Asked by PC Gamer magazine, a Valve spokesperson commented: β€œWe recently discovered that some of our partners were exploiting Steamworks tools. We have notified the affected parties via email."

Among the β€œvictims” is the Russian Dagestan Technology, hiding on Steam under a number of names. For several years, the studio managed to flood the service with such hits as Bloodbath Kavkaz and Spakoyno: Back to the USSR 2.0.

Apparently, the purge also affected honest developers. The creator of the racing arcade OutDrive also persecuted, because due to the problematic launch of the game, he was forced to contact the disgraced publisher Siberia Digital.

This is not the first mass purge on Steam. In September 2017 Valve removed from service 173 so-called trash games by Silicon Echo Studios. The team took ready-made materials for the Unity engine and assembled a commercial product from them.

Thousands of games are released annually on Steam, which makes it increasingly difficult for the system to recommend products that interest users. valve trying to optimize algorithms, but so far it works with varied success.
