According to Variety, Mark Wahlberg is in final talks with Sony Pictures to join Tom Holland in the upcoming Uncharted film adaptation.
The film about treasure hunter Nathan Drake is directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee). Mark Wahlberg will portray Victor "Sully" Sullivan, an American treasure hunter, fortune seeker and businessman, as well as Drake's friend and mentor. The main character will be played by Tom Holland ("Spider-Man: Homecoming"). Rafe Judkins is co-writing the script with the team of Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. PlayStation Productions is also involved in the production.
Ironically, Wahlberg had intended to play Nathan Drake years ago when David O. Russell was directing the first film adaptation. When Sony Pictures turned the project into an origin story, the actor didn't fit the role of the young treasure hunter, but still wanted to return to the film as any of the characters.
The game series, which began in 2007 with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, was created by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The video game franchise has sold over 41 million copies to date.
