The US government has temporarily eased trade restrictions imposed last week on Chinese company Huawei Technologies.

Washington temporarily eases trade restrictions on Huawei

The US Department of Commerce has granted Huawei a temporary license from May 20 to August 19, allowing it to purchase US-made products to support existing networks and software updates for existing Huawei phones.

At the same time, the world's largest manufacturer of telecommunications equipment will still be prohibited from buying American parts and components for the production of new products without obtaining regulatory approval.

According to US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, the license gives US carriers that use Huawei equipment time to take other measures.

β€œIn short, this license will allow existing customers to continue using Huawei mobile phones and maintaining broadband networks in rural areas,” Ross said.
