Sources told Reuters on Wednesday that the British National Security Council decided this week to ban the use of Chinese company Huawei technology in all major parts of the 5G network and restrict its access to the deployment of non-core components.

Speaking at a cybersecurity conference in Glasgow, Scotland, Lidington stressed that the UK has strict risk management procedures in its telecommunications infrastructure and the government's decision was based on "evidence and expertise, not speculation or hearsay."

β€œThe government's approach is not limited to one company or even one country, it is aimed at providing stronger cybersecurity in telecommunications, greater resilience in telecommunications networks and more diversity in the supply chain,” said David Lidington.
