Spring update of ALT p9 starter kits

The eighth release of starter kits on the Ninth Platform Alt is ready. These images are suitable for advanced users who prefer to define the list of application packages and customize the system (even creating their own derivatives) to get started with the stable repository. How composite works are distributed under the terms of the GPLv2+ license. Options include a base system and one of the desktop environments or a set of specialized applications.

Builds are prepared for i586, x86_64, aarch64 and armh architectures. Additionally, assemblies for the mipsel architecture are available in variants for Tavolga and BFK3 systems based on the Baikal-T1 processor. Owners of Elbrus VK based on 4C and 8C/1C+ processors have access to a number of starter kits. Also compiled variants of Engineering on p9 - Live with engineering software and cnc-rt - Live with a real-time kernel and software CNC LinuxCNC for x86_64.

Changes from the December release:

  • Linux kernel std-def 5.4.104 and un-def 5.10.20, in cnc-rt β€” kernel-image-rt 4.19.160;
  • Firefox ESR 78.8.0 (on aarch64 - Firefox 82);
  • x86_64 ISOs are slightly smaller due to the fact that the ESP partition no longer fits a copy of the kernel with initrd;
  • aarch64 ISOs now boot properly on systems with u-boot/efi;
  • Live works with saving the session when booting on UEFI (x86_64, aarch64);
  • kde5 starterkit decreased in size from 2 to 1,4 GB;
  • in rootfs, the default kernel is un-def;
  • Raspberry Pi: Sound issue fixed when booting with un-def kernel.
  • Raspberry Pi 4: rootfs with un-def kernel boots successfully, works stable, but hardware 3D acceleration does not work - use the build with the -rpi suffix with a special kernel for Raspberry Pi;
  • mcom02: Changed screen resolution from 1920x1080 to 1366x768 (set in /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf).

Torrents:

  • i586, x86_64
  • aarch64

The images are built using mkimage-profiles 1.4.7 with a large set of patches; The ISOs include a build profile archive (.disk/profile.tgz) for building custom derivatives (see also the builder variant and the mkimage-profiles package in it).

Builds for aarch64 and armh contain rootfs archives and qemu images in addition to ISO images; for them, installation instructions and instructions for launching qemu are available.

Additionally, we note the availability of the fifth release candidate of the Alt Workstation K 9.1 distribution, as well as the beta distribution of Simply Linux 9.1.
