The gameplay was commented on by the project director Fumihiko Yasuda, and the presentation included a new location and a fight with an ice samurai.
The formidable enemy is named Makara Naotaka - like many other Nioh characters, he is a real historical figure. Naotaka fought on the side of the Asakura clan during the Sengoku period.
To match his video game prototype, Makara Naotaka uses a nodachi, a large Japanese sword. The samurai has to operate the weapon with one hand, because he lost the other by the time the battle began.
However, by the middle of the fight, Naotaka restores his limb, transferring the battle arena to the world of youkai. The boss does not lose the hand that returns to him until the very end of the fight, which ends in the playerβs favor.
The gameplay of Nioh 2 has not undergone too many changes compared to the original, but the sequel will feature a full-fledged character editor and the ability to transform into a demon.
Nioh 2 will be released
