The developers presented another video about the creation of this important PS4 exclusive for Sony, this time dedicated to the motorcycle and its significance in the gameplay.
Studio creative director John Garvin said: βWe wanted to give players a vehicle that was meaningful to the character and a reason to explore the open world on a motorcycle. Since Deacon is a member of the informal biker club Mongrels MC, built around motorcycles, the bike acts as a symbol and, in addition, physically helps the hero survive. And that's one of the reasons we wanted to put this type of character in a post-apocalyptic environment: the connection with his bike, I think, is deeper than the average Joe living in this world has with any other form of transportation."
The developers aimed to make the mechanics so that riding a motorcycle would be fun for players, regardless of whether they have ever ridden a real bike in their lives or not. Garvin claims that in just an hour of riding a virtual motorcycle in the game, a person can feel like a professional. One of the slogans of the game: βForward off-road.β
In the story, the government, in an attempt to stop the epidemic, blew up bridges, so that the roads are damaged in many places, and players will be asked to jump over chasms using springboards. You will also have to upgrade your motorcycle and improve your character's skills to be able to make longer jumps and reach areas that are otherwise impossible to reach.
Director Jeff Ross adds: "If the player participates in side missions and provides services to human settlements, they can earn enough trust and credits to buy better parts, faster engines, and nitrous oxide to help them get out of difficult situations." situations and avoid trouble."
But if it rains, the ground turns to mud, and moving on it becomes dangerous: you can damage your vehicle and spend time on foot searching for parts. The developers wanted to make the bike a kind of survival tool, so you have to keep an eye on fuel consumption. That is, a motorcycle gives advantages, but also requires responsibility - in addition, other people will want to take possession of it.
During the passage, you will also have to choose a convenient parking place: on the one hand, further away so that the hero is not heard by enemies, and on the other hand, close enough so that you can quickly retreat in case of serious problems. The bike also provides other benefits such as saddlebags for storing ammo; it can be modified to suit you, giving you the opportunity to change colors and apply drawings as rewards for certain achievements.
