Video: Google introduces driving mode for Assistant

During the Google I/O 2019 developer conference, the search giant made an announcement talking about the development of a personal Assistant for car owners. The company has already added Assistant support to Google Maps this year, and in the next few weeks, users will be able to receive similar assistance via voice queries on the Waze navigation app.

But all this is just the beginning - the company is preparing a special mode of operation of the Google Assistant while driving. To enable drivers to do everything they need with just their voice, Google has developed a special interface that displays the most important actions, such as navigation, messaging, calls and multimedia, as clearly as possible on the smartphone screen.

The Assistant will provide suggestions based on the user's preferences and activity: for example, if there is an order for dinner in the Calendar, it will be possible to choose a route to the restaurant. Or, if the person started the podcast at home, they will be prompted to continue it from the right place. If a call is received, the assistant will announce the name of the subscriber, offer to answer or reject the call by voice. Assistant enters driving mode automatically when the phone connects to the car's Bluetooth or receives a request: "Ok Google, let's go." Driving Mode will be available this summer on Android phones that support Google Assistant.

Google is also working on making it easier to use the Assistant to control your car remotely. The owner, for example, will be able to choose the temperature inside his car before leaving the house, check the fuel level or make sure the doors are locked. The Assistant now supports these actions with commands such as "Hey Google, turn your car's A/C on 25 degrees." These vehicle controls can be incorporated into your morning routine before driving to work. Of course, it is required that the car be modern enough: in the coming months, models compatible with Blue Link technology (by Hyundai) and Mercedes me connect (by Mercedes-Benz) will receive support for the new Assistant capabilities.
