The developers call Gears 5 the largest part of the famous Gears of War series and promise not only a very well-developed campaign, but also four game modes: βEscapeβ, βConfrontationβ, βHordeβ and βMap Designerβ. For example, "Escape" is a dynamic co-op mode in which a team of three madmen must risk everything and destroy enemy hives from the inside.
Versus mode includes over a dozen different online game types, new and classic maps, and rewards for each competitive style. In Horde mode, you need to survive with the help of new character abilities, building defenses, accumulating power, leveling up skills and working together. Finally, Map Builder allows you to create custom maps in Escape mode, and share your results with friends or challenge them.
The world is collapsing - the Swarm has destroyed the Coalition's robot army and is now attacking human cities. With all-out war on the horizon, Kate Diaz is separated from the team to uncover the secret of her connection to the enemy and discover the true danger to Sera - herself. Kate didn't tell anyone about the necklace that belonged to Locust, which her mother gave her before she died, and now this secret is eating her away from the inside. Tensions rise as the squad fights off Roy and learns about the heroine's past.
Kate was born and raised outside the official jurisdiction of the COG (Coalition of United States). Reina, her mother, is the leader of an isolated village of outcasts. Yet Kate has very close family ties to the COG: her late father was a well-known lieutenant colonel during the Pendulum Wars, and her uncle Oscar repeatedly distinguished himself on the front lines in the early years of the Locust War. Another key character in the game will be J.D. Fenix, the son of Marcus Fenix ββand Anya Stroud, who grew up surrounded by stories about his heroic parents. Unfortunately, after the incident at Settlement 2, JD became deeply disillusioned with the COG and therefore went AWOL with his best friend Del, ending up in a village of outcasts. After fending off the Swarm's initial offensive, J.D. regained the attention of First Minister Jinn, much to the concern of his father and friends.
Another hero, Del Walker, lost both his parents during the difficult times of the aftermath of the Locust War and was sent to a boarding school, where he met J.D. Phoenix. As a young officer, Del participated in the disastrous COG mission to Settlement 2, which undermined his faith in the government of First Minister Jinn. Although Del recognizes the need to jointly fight against the COG after the appearance of the Swarm, he himself is not enthusiastic about such a task - and he is completely unprepared to find out the details of the incident in Settlement 2, which J.D. is hiding from him.
Finally, there will be a place for Marcus Fenix, who played a limited role in the COG after the end of the Locust War, even though his wife Anya initially headed the government. After Anya's death, it became clear that the COG was prioritizing authoritarian control over restoring a just society. Now, reunited with J.D., Marcus again fights on the side of the COG, but remains disappointed in power and conflicts with his son.
