Video: why is the only weapon in Control enough?

The Gameinformer portal tried to find out from Remedy Entertainment as many details as possible about its upcoming brainchild. We learned that the game will be released in the summer (the exact date has not yet been announced), got acquainted with the abilities of the main character in more detail, and also got an idea about the development of artificial intelligence in the game. The new video is dedicated to the weapons of the main character.

Recall: Control will tell the story of Jessie Faden, who became the new director of the Federal Bureau of Control. The headquarters of the organization has been taken over by a mysterious life form called the Hiss. The player will have to deal with the situation and fight off the FBK, including using his unusual firearms.

Lead project designer Paul Ehreth said: β€œThere is only one weapon in the game, but it can transform into different forms. Each of them can be used in different ways during combat. And so some versions or forms of weapons might be better for long range or accuracy, and others for burst damage and things like that.”

The player can unlock many different forms, but will only be allowed to switch between two on the fly during combat. The standard form is similar to a revolver: it allows you to quite accurately hit the target, but only with single shots. There is also a form resembling a shotgun for contact fights. There is also something like a submachine gun with a high rate of fire, but relatively low accuracy, for medium distances.

Narrative Director Brooke Maggs added: β€œThe service weapon is a power object that Jessie gets at the start of the game that essentially selects a heroine and allows her to become the director of the Bureau. As she enters her role, the heroine gets different forms of service weapons while developing her abilities, so that the gameplay at each stage works to strengthen this bundle.

Among the more unusual forms, there is a powerful weapon for single-aimed fire, which allows you to pierce objects and deal damage to enemies hidden behind them. Actively using a weapon drains energy quickly, so there may come a time when you have to stop to let it replenish, turning to attacking with abilities for a while.

There are also modifications that are effective against certain types of opponents. They, for example, can increase the reload speed. This creates additional variability so that players can tailor their weapons to their abilities and preferred playstyle. Skills tend to be more effective against shields and deal more damage, but they have a slower cooldown, so players will have to combine weapons and abilities all the time. In addition, weapons deal more damage to enemies without shields.

As already mentioned, such an unusual pistol plays an important role in the plot, it is connected with the Bureau, the new director and what is happening around - all this will be revealed as you progress. Among the main features of Control, it is worth noting the interactive environment, platforming elements, puzzles, procedural generation and dynamic battles. Fans of Quantum Break and Alan Wake won't have to wait too long - Control, as already noted, will be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One this summer.
