Video: No More Heroes 3 anime-style trailer is insane in a good way, the game will be released in 2020

Of all the trailers that debuted at The Game Awards 2019, perhaps the most memorable was No More Heroes 3, which turned out to be an animated short film and has almost nothing to do with the real game.

The five-minute trailer for No More Heroes 3 barely mentions the iconic character of the series, Travis Touchdown. It focuses on the story of a boy who finds a cute alien named Fu. This boy Damon took care of Fu until the alien built a rocket, promising to return in twenty years and endowing the child with certain abilities.

Then the trailer takes the viewer twenty years: Fu does indeed return exactly 20 years later, but now he is far from being a cute ball of kindness, but a superhero whose motives turned out to be sinister, albeit banal. Fu starts attacking the planet and promises to take over with his minions, much to Damon's dismay. Then the audience is shown the name of the game, which reads like β€œDamn Superhero”, and after this inscription is crossed out and No More Heroes 3 appears instead. By the way, there is also a short version of the trailer:

It looks like Fu will be the main antagonist of No More Heroes 3, and Travis Touchdown will have to stop Fu and his team. Although in past games Travis has mostly fought Earth's greatest assassins, it seems that in the new game he will have to take on enemies from outer space. It's definitely a silly and funny premise, just what the fans want.

Probably the best part of the trailer is left for the very end, when viewers are informed that No More Heroes 3 is slated for release next year in 2020. However, Travis Touchdown himself seems to admit that keeping a promise can be tricky. β€œ2020 release? Ha! Good luck,” he says at the end, essentially poking fun at the development team’s hopes of launching the game next year. It's worth noting that No More Heroes 3 will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
