Ubisoft introduced recently Breakpoint, a new game in the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series, which will be the successor to the tactical military third-person shooter Ghost Recon Wildlands. The new project will also unfold in the open world (this time on the Auroa archipelago), and other Ghosts will become the main enemies. In preparation for the launch, the French publisher decided to briefly recall the series that largely defined the genre of tactical action movies - the history of Ghost Recon includes almost two decades and six games.

It all started in 2001 when Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon hit the market and essentially created the team war shooter genre by offering realistic and challenging gameplay. The game proved successful, leading to the release of a powerful sequel in 2004 in Ghost Recon 2, which featured dynamic third-person transitions, support for up to 16 players, and expanded multiplayer modes.

2006's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter increased the emphasis on team management and included real-life prototype military equipment and weapons. A year later, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 offered a deep, engaging campaign and multiplayer skirmishes set in a near-future war, with the ability to command support units.

In 2012, the series was reimagined with the help of Ghost recon future soldier: Gameplay has been sped up with a focus on using cover, team synced shots, no conventional in-game weaponry, and promising technologies like adaptive camouflage. Finally in 2017, Ghost Recon Wildlands marked the transition of the tactical shooter series into an open world that can be explored both independently and in a team of up to 4 players. The game also received a 4v4 tactical multiplayer Ghost War mode.
