Video: OnePlus 7 Pro retractable camera lifts 22kg concrete block

Yesterday was the presentation of the flagship smartphone OnePlus 7 Pro, which received a solid display, devoid of any notches or cutouts for the front camera. The usual solution has been replaced by a special block with a camera that slides out of the upper end of the case. To prove the strength of this design, the developers filmed a video demonstrating how the smartphone lifts a 49,2 lb (approximately 22,3 kg) block attached to the front camera pop-up mechanism with a cable.

The developers note that the retractable camera makes the flagship smartphone truly full-screen. It also says that the movable mechanism of the front camera has been seriously tested and is able to withstand more than 300 movements from one position to another. This suggests that even with intensive use, it can function for more than five years. It is worth noting that in the event of a fall of the smartphone, the front camera can be folded automatically.

Released by developers video confirms the strength of the structure. However, it should be said that such tests are under close supervision and are carried out for a specific purpose, so they cannot be considered the best proof of the strength of the retractable front camera unit. A striking example of this is the recent video Samsung, in which the smartphone with a flexible display Galaxy Fold folded and unfolded 200 times. Despite the successful test, problems with the display were revealed even before the launch, which forced the South Korean tech giant to delay the launch of the flagship device.

Recall that OnePlus 7 Pro is the most expensive smartphone manufacturer, since the cost of the base model is around $660.
