Sony Interactive Entertainment and Other Ocean Interactive have published a video in which the developers talk about how the process of creating a remake of MediEvil for the PlayStation 4 is going on.
The original action-adventure game MediEvil was released on the PlayStation in 1998 by SCE Cambridge (now Guerrilla Cambridge). Now, more than 20 years later, the Other Ocean Interactive team is recreating the project from scratch with a modern look. According to the developers, one of the main things that help them in this difficult task is the opportunity to communicate with the authors of the original game.
βWe were guided by a simple principle: βDo what they did, do not change anything until there is a very good reason for it,β explained executive producer Jeff Nachbaur (Jeff Nachbaur). - Sometimes you have to deal with strange code or illogical design decisions, and then you involuntarily ask yourself: βWhy did they do it this way? That doesn't make any sense!" And then you dive even deeper into the game, understand it and realize: βAh, so that's why everything was done this way. Now it is clear"".
Other Ocean Interactive even turned to the music the MediEvil writers listened to. βIn the code of the original game, we found comments about what kind of music the creators of the original game listened to while working. This helped us understand the mood in which they created this or that level, βadded Nakbaur.
More details on the development of MediEvil, including interviews, sketches and materials, can be found in the Art of MediEvil digital artbook, which is exclusive to
MediEvil will go on sale October 25, 2019 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
