The release of video cards based on NVIDIA Ampere GPUs is just around the corner. According to the latest data from the China Times, NVIDIA has already begun production of a new generation of GPUs. In this regard, its partners from among the manufacturers of video cards have begun clearing stocks of existing Turing-based video cards, which should favorably affect prices for consumers.
NVIDIA is expected to introduce and release the first gaming graphics cards based on next-generation Ampere GPUs in the third quarter of this year. As before, the company will offer reference models, and its partners will release new items in their own versions.
In this regard, some graphics card manufacturers have already reduced the wholesale prices of their own GeForce RTX 20-series variants in order to eliminate existing excess stocks. The source states that ASUS video cards are most noticeably discounted, although other manufacturers, including Gigabyte and MSI, are trying to keep up.
There is nothing surprising in the fact that the markdown affects GeForce RTX 20 video cards, and not the younger GeForce GTX 16. NVIDIA will obviously not change its traditions, and will first of all introduce top-level video cards - conditional GeForce RTX 30. In turn, entry-level models and middle price segments on the new Ampere GPUs are unlikely to appear before 2021. Until then, solutions based on Turing will be offered here.
Thus, we can expect a significant reduction in retail prices for older models of the GeForce RTX 20 series in the near future. That is, if you are planning to buy one of the older Turing-based video cards, then soon it will probably be possible to do this a little cheaper.
