Insomniac Video Story on SSD, DualSense, 3D Sound and More in Ratchet & Clank for PS5

Back during the show by Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games first trailer adventure action movie Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, many drew attention to the rapid change of worlds, assuming the work of an SSD here. Then the developers confirmed using ray tracing, and now they have released their first video diary and introduced them in more detail to the features of the project.

Insomniac Video Story on SSD, DualSense, 3D Sound and More in Ratchet & Clank for PS5

This video diary was narrated by creative director Marcus Smith. Built from the ground up for the PS5, the story of the game is that the fabric of space-time is damaged, creating rifts between worlds. “Ratchet & Clank is a series that prides itself on exploring exotic worlds and taking players to places they've never been before. That's what we're aiming for, and PlayStation 5 really takes that to the next level. The number of objects in the world and things to explore, enemies around and effects - everything has become much more, ”added the head.

The developers have tried to make the perception of the worlds as realistic and exciting as possible. And the main highlight of the project, which was not possible on previous generations of consoles, is spatial rifts that require a PlayStation 5 SSD. The SSD is very fast and allows the team to create worlds and transport players from one place to another almost instantly.

“It's an incredible game changer in terms of gameplay, where you're in one world and the next moment you're in another. We load levels so quickly and directly during the action that the observer cannot even imagine that this could not have been achieved before - it all seems so natural. Long loading screens are a thing of the past,” Smith added.

In addition, the new DualSense controller on the PlayStation 5 is being actively used to improve the weapon experience in Ratchet & Clank. The game uses advanced haptic feedback to let the player understand the power of the weapon, as well as convey its characteristics. And the Enforcer (a local equivalent of a double-barreled shotgun) uses adaptive triggers to convey tension. When the user lowers the finger halfway, one barrel fires, when the end - both. But as you press it, the player will feel an increase in the force applied to the trigger, and this behavior of the triggers also feeds back to all weapons in the game.

Another thing the studio is focusing on in action-adventure is 4D spatial sound. The developers promise fundamental changes in this area, which will make fantasy worlds much more real than was possible on PSXNUMX.

“We at Insomniac have been working on the Ratchet & Clank series for almost twenty years. We love these characters. And the new game is truly the culmination of all the work and effort we put in. We look forward to showing you more of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in the future, and until then, thanks for watching,” concluded Marcus Smith.
