In the Star Wars universe, droids are traditionally more than just robots. They often act as important supporting characters with their own personalities. Suffice it to recall the classic heroes of the entire film saga - C-3PO and R2-D2. It is not surprising that the creators of the adventure action movie Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (in Russian localization - Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order) decided to pay close attention to the companion droid. This is what the dev diary posted on the EA Star Wars channel says:
To begin with, we recall that the protagonist of the game, Padawan Cal Kestis, who is trying to become a Jedi, travels everywhere with a small and cute friend droid BD-1. This hero is not a burden - he is constantly involved in the gameplay: he helps to overcome obstacles, interact with terminals, read ancient inscriptions, and even heals Cal.
Cal often talks to his iron companion during story scenes and wears the BD-1 on his shoulder. The developers say they can't imagine a Padawan story without a helper droid, and consider BD-1 a great addition to the family of well-known robots in the Star Wars universe.
An important part of the design of the droid's appearance was that BD-1 could express emotions. This is achieved not only by the movements of a mechanical character, sometimes reminiscent of a devoted dog, but also by his sounds in the spirit of R2-D2. The idea to hang the droid on Cal's shoulder was taken from Luke's training scene on the planet Dagobah, in which he carried his aged teacher Yoda on him. In general, the developers tried to make BD-1 a real friend for Cal, with whom the guy will overcome a lot of trials.
