Developer's video story about creating a storm in Man of Medan

Following the first part of the video story "Deep Sea", dedicated to modeling water during a storm in the thriller The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan, Bandai Namco Entertainment presented a continuation of the story about the creation of water elements in the game. Developed by Supermassive Games Studio, known for the games Until Dawn and The Inpatient.

Art director of the project Robert Craig (Robert Craig) noted that the storm scene is important in the game also because it is like a Rubicon, after which the tone of the plot changes. From the beginning of the game until this moment, the characters are practically in no danger, but here they are faced with serious danger - the developers wanted to reflect this visually, so the lighting also changes. At the beginning of the game, natural sunlight is used, without any additional sources, and in the storm scene, the game switches to a more cinematic style, helping to create an unsettling atmosphere. The colors also become blue-green, which is intended to increase the feeling of anxiety and the expectation of horror.

The behavior of the camera is also changing: if developers prefer a fixed camera before a storm, then after it, a manual one is mainly used, as if reflecting the impact of the storm on the virtual operator. This enhances the feeling of the presence of an outside observer, following the heroes on their heels. Sometimes the camera moves along with the characters so that the player is more involved in what is happening.

Sound designer Hywel Payne noted that when creating the game, the developers never forgot about the ocean raging around the ghost ship. Sounds constantly remind of its presence: waves rolling on board, metal creaking under the onslaught of the elements - everything suggests that this terrible leviathan can absorb unlucky visitors at any moment.
