On April 21, 2026, Oracle announced the release of a new release of the VirtualBox 7.2.8 virtualization system.
Major changes:
- Fixed a bug that caused "Guru Meditation" to fail with the VERR_IEM_IPE_4 error code. The issue occurred when the guest OS attempted to execute an invalid hypercall instruction but instead generated a #UD exception.
- Fixed an issue where the internal DNS server might be unavailable.
- Fixed a bug in Ubuntu 25.10 / Wayland, due to which the mouse cursor shape did not change depending on the context.
- Fixed a crash when shutting down FreeBSD 16.0 if multiple devices were connected to the LSI Logic SAS controller.
Linux Host:
- Added initial support for kernels 6.19 and 7.0.
- Added support for accounting of guest systems' time.
Linux Host/Guest:
- Additional fixes for RHEL 10.1 and 10.2 kernels.
- Added UEK9 kernel support for Oracle Linux 9.
- The speed of the rcvboxdrv/rcvboxadd setup scripts and the installation process has been optimized.
Linux Guest Additions:
- The vboxvideo kernel module has been deprecated for kernels 7.0 and newer. For systems with kernel 7.0+, it is recommended to use VMSVGA graphics or the built-in vboxvideo module. Support for older kernels remains.
- Fixed broken clipboard synchronization in the "guest Wayland - host" connection Windows».
- Fixed a bug where the last character was not copied to the clipboard Windows-host from the guest system on Wayland.
